Six-leaf Screen In Double-sided Dominoté Paper, 18th Century
Important six-leaf folding screen, entirely covered with hand-printed and hand-enhanced dominoté papers, mid-18th century work.
Each side features a distinct decoration, testifying to its ornamental richness.
A first side develops a sequence of animated scenes in architectural landscapes and pleasure gardens, populated by characters in 18th-century costumes. The compositions alternate between fabriques, bosquets and perspectives, in a typically European spirit.
The other side offers a series of scenes from the 18th century.
The other side offers a more ornamental and exotic decor, inspired by the taste for chinoiserie then in vogue: stylized birds, orientalizing figures, symmetrical compositions and frames with repeated motifs, characteristic of dominoté papers.
