Hare-hunting Dog, 19th-century Bronze. Ferdinand Pautrot (1832–1874)
Animal bronze by Ferdinand Pautrot (1832–1874) depicting a hunting dog sitting next to a hare hanging from a branch.
A beautiful hunting scene characteristic of Pautrot’s work, with particular attention paid to the dog’s posture, anatomy, and the rendering of its coat. The naturalistic base is engraved with the signature “PAUTROT.”
An early bronze cast with a brown patina tinged with golden highlights, from the second half of the 19th century.
Please note some damage and missing sections in the fine branches surrounding the hare, as well as an old metal-wire reinforcement, visible in the photographs.
