Set Of Five Consulat-period Chairs In Cherry Wood—late 18th / Early 19th Century
Set of five chairs from the Consulate period, late 18th–early 19th century, made of cherry wood.
The semicircular backs feature carved eagle heads at the ends, a motif characteristic of the decorative repertoire of the Consulate period. Each chair is distinguished by a different carved design in the center of the back, offering five varied decorative patterns.
The seats have retained their original two-tone red and gold straw-woven upholstery, which is particularly decorative. The legs are joined by crossbars, with a turned front rail featuring chamfered edges.
The five chairs are accompanied by cushions made from a Directoire-era fabric featuring red floral motifs on a yellow background, edged with red piping.
