Green-glazed Earthenware Water Jug, 19th Century
A beautiful green-glazed terracotta water jug in the Orjol style, dating from the 19th century. This silhouette, characteristic of pottery from the Bas-Languedoc region, is distinguished by its bulbous body, two handles, and spout. Used for transporting and serving water, it bears witness to the craftsmanship of regional pottery workshops.
The spout shows the usual signs of wear typical of this type of piece. In fact, it was often used as a fulcrum to tilt the jug when pouring water, which explains the chips frequently seen in this area. Its green glaze and beautiful patina attest to many years of use.
