Description:
Side 1:
Depicts Saint Francis of Assisi, identifiable by his Franciscan habit, the cross he holds in one hand and the skull (memento mori) in the other, a symbol of penance and meditation on death. This iconography corresponds to the style of Baroque representations of the saint.
Side 2:
Depicts the Virgin of Mount Carmel, carrying the crowned Infant Jesus. Both hold scapulars, emblems characteristic of Carmelite devotion. The Virgin is surrounded by a golden halo, accentuating the quality of this miniature painting.
This representation evokes the spiritual promises linked to the Carmelite brotherhood.
