Reliquary of Saint Christine, Virgin and Martyr - 18th / early 19th century - France
Oval devotional reliquary presented under glass, containing an ex ossibus relic of Saint Christine (S. Christinae V.M.), arranged in the center on a red textile background.
Description
The relic is framed by silver metallic paperwork forming a radiating star pattern, typical of late 18th-century conventual production.
The set is enriched with small floral decorative elements and a beaded surround.
The original manuscript titulus, in Latin, is preserved beneath the relic: "S. Christinae V.M." (Sancta Christina Virgo et Martyr).
Gilt brass mount, with antique suspension ring. Smooth reverse.
Condition
Overall good condition. Wear from use to the frame, old glass showing very slight alterations.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as an object of sacred art. The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
