Large Oval Reliquary – Ex Ligno Crucis And Relics Of Saints (18th Century) - Italy
Oval Reliquary – Ex Ligno Crucis and Relics of Saints (18th Century) – Italy.
Large oval reliquary under glass, richly decorated with gilt filigree paper filigree on a green and red background, within a molded metal frame with rocaille decoration.
The interior decoration adopts a symbolic architectural style (temple façade type) with simulated columns and volutes, framing a central relic of the True Cross (Ex Ligno Crucis), presented as a double fragment arranged in a cross within a radiating medallion.
Around this main relic are arranged several relics identified by their authentic inscriptions.
There are also relics ex ossibus and ex ligno.
The whole is typical of devotional productions of the 18th and early 19th centuries, with meticulous paper filigree work and a highly structured composition.
The reverse side retains its original red wax ecclesiastical seal with threads, guaranteeing the reliquary's original integrity (unopened).
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred work of art.
The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
