Silver Zolotnik Belt Buckle From The Russian Imperial Period 84 - 19th
Silver zolotnik belt buckle from the Russian Imperial period 84 - 19th
Silver belt buckle decorated with polychrome cloisonné enamels, typical of the 19th-century Russian workshops.
Description:
The decoration, particularly dense and skillfully executed, alternates vegetal scrolls, volutes, and enameled florets in a vibrant palette: turquoise, royal blue, emerald green, brick red, and touches of white.
The work is fine, with true twisted cloisonné traditionally used in Russian silversmithing.
The enamels are well preserved, without major chips, and still retain all their chromatic freshness.
The two elements of the buckle are joined by an original chain and fasten with the sword.
The reverse bears the hallmarks:
— an oval hallmark bearing the title "84" (Russian silver, 875/1000), typical of hallmarks prior to 1917;
— A maker's mark (unidentified, but most likely from a Moscow or St. Petersburg workshop specializing in cloisonné enamels).
Dimensions: 8.5 × 6.5 cm.
Condition:
Complete and functional hanging system. Good overall condition, normal wear to the reverse.
A high-quality decorative piece, representative of Russian cloisonné enamel craftsmanship, comparable to works attributed to the workshops of Soloviev, Ovchinnikov, or P. Sazikov.
