Reliquary in sealed theca - Relic of Saint Hippolytus of Rome - Authentic Cardinal Sterckx (1851)- Mechelen - Belgium
Description
Authentic circular metal reliquary, containing an ex ossibus relic of Saint Hippolytus of Rome, martyr, presented on a gilded textile background with cut paperolle and handwritten titulus "S. Hippolyti M.".
Saint Hippolytus of Rome (3rd century) was an early Christian martyr, venerated for his doctrinal fidelity and witness in the face of persecution.
The relic is arranged in a star shape and fixed according to traditional usage, with trace of ancient sealing.
The reverse retains its intact, armorial red wax seal, applied over filling and held in place by metal staples - a mounting typical of reliquaries authenticated in the 19th century.
The set is accompanied by its authentic printed and handwritten original, drawn up in Latin under the authority of Engelbertus Sterckx, Archbishop of Malines and Primate of Belgium, dated 1851.
The document explicitly attests: the nature of the relic: ex ossibus S. Hippolyti Martyris , its canonical authenticity, its sealing in a theca intended for public veneration
