Alabaster Sculpture Of Christ Carrying The Cross – Tuscany, 15th Century, Medieval, High Middle Ages

Alabaster sculpture of Christ Carrying the Cross – Tuscany, 15th century, Medieval, High Middle Ages

An elegant alabaster sculpture depicting Christ Carrying the Cross, created in Tuscany during the 15th century. This work was originally an appliqué element on a cross, designed to create an effect of depth and relief. Only the body of Christ remains today.

The quality of the sculpture attests to the refinement of Italian art during the early Renaissance. The face, imbued with beautiful expressiveness, features delicate almond-shaped eyes, while the hair, executed with remarkable finesse, is styled in a manner characteristic of 15th-century Italian sculpture.

The reverse retains its two original mounting holes, a reminder of its original function.

The piece is in good condition. Note: There is an old repair and a small chip on the right leg; both are stable and do not affect the overall appreciation of the work.

Dimensions: 13.8 cm in length.

A fine example of 15th-century Tuscan sculpture, combining quality of craftsmanship, expressiveness, and historical significance.
