Polished Neolithic Black Stone Axe – Belgium – Old Belgian Collection – Appraised

Neolithic polished black stone axe – Belgium – Former Belgian collection – Appraised

A beautiful polished Neolithic axe (approx. 5000–2200 BCE), crafted from black stone with a naturally lustrous surface that has been carefully polished.

This piece comes from a former Belgian collection, the same provenance as the two other axes currently offered in our gallery. Given this collection history, it most likely originates from an ancient discovery made in Belgium.

The axe is of fine quality, with harmonious proportions and a polish that is still well-preserved. It is in excellent overall condition, with only a few small chips from ancient use, now fully patinated, attesting to its age without detracting from its aesthetic appeal.

Dimensions: length: 10.5 cm, maximum width: 4.8 cm

This piece has been appraised by Florian Bourguet in Paris, guaranteeing its authenticity.

Polished axes are one of the iconic objects of the Neolithic period. They were used for clearing forests and working wood, and also held significant symbolic value. Examples made of finely polished black stone, retaining a beautiful antique patina, are particularly sought after by collectors of prehistoric archaeology.

An authentic piece with excellent provenance from a private collection, ideal for enriching a cabinet of curiosities or a collection specializing in European archaeology.
