Carved Oak Gothic Chest Panel - Late 15th / Early 16th Century, Medieval, Haute époque

Rare carved oak furniture panel, probably from a chest, dating from the late 15th or very early 16th century.

This small piece of furniture features finely executed Gothic decoration. The lower part is adorned with interlaced speckles associated with a few stylized flowers. The main composition, in the upper part, develops around a plant crown carved in relief, centered by a fleur-de-lys standing out against a scale background. The corners are embellished with floral motifs that harmoniously complete the whole.

By the quality of its decoration and its excellent decorative character, this panel is a fine testimony to the furniture art of the late Middle Ages, a period of transition between the flamboyant Gothic and the early Renaissance influences.
