Large Polished Axe From The Late Neolithic Period (3400–2900 B.c.) – Found In Héverlé, Belgium, In 1866
An important polished axe from the Late Neolithic period (3400–2900 BCE), carved from a beautiful brown flint.
Although incomplete, this piece retains remarkable dimensions, with a current length of 19 cm. The heel section is missing, but the object remains particularly representative of the large, prestigious axes produced during the Late Neolithic.
This axe comes from an old Belgian collection assembled in the 19th century. Its significance is enhanced by the presence of its original provenance label, which reads: “found in 1866 in the Héverlé woods, near Lou(vain).” Prehistoric objects with such an ancient and precisely documented provenance have become rare on the market today.
Discovered in the Héverlé Woods (Heverlee), near Leuven in Belgium, this piece is both a major archaeological artifact and a record of local history.
Object appraised by Florian Bourguet, Appraisal Firm in Paris.
A beautiful collector’s item that will appeal to prehistory enthusiasts, collectors of Neolithic artifacts, and fans of Belgian archaeology. The preservation of its original provenance is a particularly sought-after feature.
