Hans Baumhauer 1913-2001 - Beautiful Gouache - Master Glass Artist Native Of Munich - Madonna And Child

An interesting and rare gouache dated 1944 depicting a Madonna and Child in a rather modern pictorial style. The work is signed in the lower right corner by Hans Baumhauer (1913-2001), a painter of the German school who was also a renowned stained-glass artist, sculptor, and mosaicist. A native of Munich, he participated in the construction of numerous churches in southern Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Israel. Among his works, the restoration of the stained-glass windows of Freiburg Cathedral and the stained-glass window he created for the Great Synagogue of Jerusalem are often cited. Note: one of the attractions of this work is its relative rarity on the market. Although the artist often devoted himself to sacred art, religious works are virtually nonexistent on the market. Indeed, this gouache dates from 1944, but from the 1950s and 60s onward...
