Officer's Sword Of The Imperial Guard Scouts
Rare "hunter-style" saber belonging to an officer of the Imperial Guard Scouts.
Hilt with three branches carved with acanthus leaves. The pommel has a long tail lavishly decorated with floral motifs in relief. Curved crossguard. Handle wrapped in blackened leather, filigree-worked with double brass threads. It retains all of its gilding.
Curved blade with a single hollow edge and a counter-cut, decorated with trophies and floral motifs. It retains its original polish and has preserved some of its blue patina and gilding.
The scabbard is made of polished steel. The scabbard rings feature a star within a leafy circle on an amati background, the symbol of the Éclaireurs.
Note: The Éclaireurs of the Imperial Guard were light cavalry regiments created by Napoleon I in December 1813 to serve as reconnaissance troops and to combat the Russian Cossacks, whose mobility had severely hampered the French army during the Russian campaign
