Model 1833 1st Type Ship's Dagger
A Model 1833 ship's dagger of the first type.
The flat brass crossguard is hallmarked below with a marine anchor and a B surmounted by a star. The letters LG are engraved on it (initials of the owner or those of the vessel on which it was embarked?).
The handle is made of wood painted black.
The triangular blade is hallmarked at the ricasso with a B in an oval.
The scabbard is made of blackened leather with a brass chape secured by three clips, and a natural leather pull.
Louis Philippe period.
Naval daggers of the first type are rare, as they were quickly replaced by the model with an iron scabbard.
