King's Bodyguard Saber, 1st Model, 1814
First-model sword of the King’s bodyguard.
Handle covered in stingray leather with a filigree pattern. Gilded brass mount, four-
pronged guard, and a shell bearing the arms of France. Pommel stamped “197.” Quillon double-
stamped. Curved blade with a flat back, engraved “Manufacture Rle du Klingenthal October 1814”; the
concave sides are engraved with trophies of arms, fleurs-de-lis, the arms of France, and “GARDES DU CORPS DU
ROI.”
Leather scabbard with three brass fittings.
