Senior Staff Officer's Sword, Louis Philippe Era.
A Louis Philippe period senior staff officer's sword with a silvered bronze hilt. It features a single-branch chased and a chased pommel in mother-of-pearl. The grip is covered with checkered wooden scales. The guard is decorated with a rooster motif*. The triangular blade has three fullers and has been shortened, with a gray patina and oxidation pitting. See photos. Length 79cm, blade 67cm. No scabbard.
* In 1830, during the July Monarchy, Louis-Philippe officially adopted the rooster as the symbol of France. It was notably featured on the first coins and on military uniforms. The rooster thus became the embodiment of the proud and combative French nation.
