Colonel of Artillery Léonce Frédéric DONOP's sword. Brother of the Army Corps General, grandson of the French General from the Revolution to the Empire, died on June 18, 1815, at Waterloo. Gilt brass hilt. Four-branch guard forming a shell in the shape of an openwork palmette with fleurons. Palmette-shaped quillon. Short, flat-tailed pommel. Decorated on the top with a fleur-de-lis and on the tang with the family coat of arms. Wooden grip covered in shagreen (part of the grip and the wire wrapping are missing). This hilt likely belonged to his father during the restoration of the 1816 pattern. Straight blade with a flat back, signed "Manufacture de Châtellerault; Model 1882. Entreprise à Trouille. March 1889"; cavalry officer's hilt and gutter, attributed to "Léonce Frédéric BARON DONOP, cavalry officer," blade length 92 cm. Natural buffalo hide sword knot. Scabbard with a single iron suspension ring. Overall length 1.115 meters. Good condition, see photos. France; 19th century (1816 pattern hilt and 1882 pattern blade and scabbard). Family heirloom.
