1833 French Navy Saber, Also Known As A Boarding Saber

Artist: Manufacture Royale De Châtellerault
This is a regulation Royal Navy saber, model1833, also known as a boarding saber, and nicknamed "pot spoon" because of the shape of its guard shell. It is marked Châtellerault and dated 1841.
BLADE: this is the regulation bladeof the model, which after a short ricasso has a hollow edge and ends the last 15 cm with a counter-edge. On the back is the inscription (oxidation): Manuf re R ale de Châtellerault 8bre 1841 for "Manufacture Royale de Châtellerault, Octobre 1841"
Atshoulder level, control hallmark difficult to read. On each side, there is an anchor. It appears that these have been possibly re-engraved, which seems to have happened quite often at this time , since the Manufacture's original engraving were very shallow and tended to fade very quickly. The blade is oxidized ,It's obvious that this weapon saw service at sea and didn't stay in the storerooms arsenal
.Blade length 66.4 cm, width at ricasso 3.6 cm, thickness at ricasso 9 mm
MOUNTING : This is the large, blackened regulation guard, which joins the pommel. The grip is 8-sided, curved and covered with the same black protection as the rest of the mount.
SCABBARD : This is a blackened leather cowhide scabbard, with two stapled brass fittings. Two small anchors are stamped on the inner side  near the scabbard entrance. As I'm not a specialist in naval weaponry, I can't say whether this is the original scabbard or not However, it fits the weapon perfectly the weapon.

In resume, it's a Navy must-have, with the marks of time which clearly show that this saber has seen service at sea and is therefore not in brand new condition. The price takes this condition into account.
