17th Century Italian Stiletto Dagger , Engraved Handle
This stiletto is typically Italian, and can be dated to the 17th century. This type of weapon was used to inflict narrow and deep wounds, very difficult to treat at the time. The section of this blade was even supposed to allow it to pass through certain chainmail ribs.
BLADE: this is the typical blade of stilettos of this period. After a first small part worked in the shape of a baluster over 1.5 cm, the blade takes on a very sharp triangular section, capable of passing through the rings of a chainmail rib.
Blade length = 13.2 cm Width near the guard 9.2 mm thickness near the guard = 6 mm
GUARD: This is a robust cross guard with 2 ball-shaped quillons, around a rectangular center.
HILT : It is in one piece, grip and pommel. In the shape of a baluster with 3 bulges.
The whole hilt is in a brown patina that I chose to respect, but which can very easily be cleaned with a little polishing.
