"Drum Major's Collar Back. First Empire."
Drum Major's collar. First Empire. Natural leather frame with 8 rivets, covered in bearskin. Brown patent leather crown, 26 cm in diameter. A hole is cut at the top of the forearm to receive the plume or pompom. The interior lining is made of brown waxed sheepskin, cut into 7 scalloped edges with an iron fastening buckle. The scalloped edges have two slits for the chin strap. The black interior crown has a label inscribed "Tambour Major" (Drum Major), First Empire. Dimensions: height 25 and 36 cm; diameter 26 cm. Tricolor rooster feather plume mounted on a stem, 50 cm total length, feathers 38 cm. The set is in fairly good condition. France; early 19th century.
