Royal Guard Dragoon Officer's Helmet. First Model 1815; Restoration period. The ordinances of August 30th and December 6th, 1815, retained the helmet for cuirassiers and dragoons. However, the appearance of this headgear was completely modified. Gilt copper skull, leather visor and neck guard, encircled by a brass band folded over the shoulder. Gilt brass crest with stamped decorations; the wings are stamped with a large oak branch on a sandblasted background; the mask is stamped and bears the Arms of France at the bottom. Bearskin plume. Round rosettes embossed with a fleur-de-lis. Leather lining in good condition. Item recovered from a castle attic. Sold as is; over 80% of the gilding remains.
