General's Police Cap. First Empire. The cap body is made of dark blue cloth with silver thread piping, remnants of the gilding remaining. The body forms a flame shape ending in a point with a passementerie pompom and large ruffled fringe. Two elliptical side flaps; the top of the band is embroidered directly onto the cloth with an oak branch in thread, bullion, and sequins. The branch is 45 mm wide. A pomegranate is embroidered in bullion at the front. Total height without the pompom is 71 cm and width 27 cm. Beige silk lining. Good condition, with restoration; some holes and wear remain. France. First Empire. Early 19th century.
