Officer's shako of the 13th Hussar Regiment or Gendarmerie. First Empire. The body is made of cardboard covered in black felt, edged at the bottom with a black leather band without a tightening buckle at the back. It is covered by a cowhide leather crown folded down over the felt. The upper part features a velvet braid and a silver passementerie braid. The visor is made of black patent leather, embossed at the top with laurel branches and edged with a folded rush straddling the outer edge; it is held in place by four small nails. A tricolor cockade of silver, red, and blue passementerie braid adorns the shako. The front plate, Model 1806, is lozenge-shaped and stamped with an Imperial eagle surmounted by a crown and holding the shining spindle in its talons. At the bottom is a shield embossed with the number "13". Chin straps composed of a soft leather chin strap covered in black velvet and adorned with scales cut alternately into four and three scalloped edges. Round rosette stamped in its center with a pomegranate, silver finish. Interior lining restored. Hemispherical lens-shaped pompom, decorated in its center with the number "13" in silver wire.
