Turned Wooden Cup, 17th-century English Craftsmanship—haute époque, Mortar; Folk Art
Rare turned wooden goblet, 17th-century English work. It features an elegant, flared chalice-shaped silhouette resting on a molded foot. The body and foot are adorned with fine moldings, rings, and horizontal grooves, showcasing the woodturning craftsmanship of the era.
This type of antique piece is sometimes interpreted as an apothecary’s mortar, although this attribution remains hypothetical.
The object captivates with its harmonious proportions and, above all, its magnificent antique patina—deep and lustrous—which lends it great character and authenticity.
In good overall condition considering its age, with a few holes from wood-boring insects and small chips, evidence of its history.
