Pair Of Openwork Painted Sheet Metal Vases With White Bases, Empire Period
This exceptional pair of painted sheet-metal chestnut vases or potpourri jars dates from the early 19th century, during the Empire or Restoration period. Made of varnished sheet iron, they perfectly imitate the precious South Staffordshire enamels. It is extremely difficult to find antique painted sheet metal, and the rare examples available on the market are almost exclusively dark in color (black, green, blue). Finding vases of this size (25 cm) with a rare pure white background is a true museum-quality rarity.
They are adorned with delicate hand-painted bouquets of flowers, butterflies, and a remarkable openwork border.
Dimensions: height 25 cm; diameters 17 cm and 16.8 cm; weight 553 g and 554 g.
Condition: The condition is fantastic; the main decoration is intact, with only minor chips of paint on the openwork gallery and the base, a fine hairline crack on one foot and a handle, as well as minor touch-ups on the inside of the lids—details that are entirely insignificant given the beauty of the piece.
