Royal Worcester Richard Sebright Painted Fruit Cabinet Plate, England, 1935

Produced by the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company and bearing the date code for 1935, this distinguished cabinet plate is hand-painted and signed by Richard Sebright. The underside retains the original Bonhams auction labels, providing documented auction provenance.

The central reserve depicts two ripe apples with blackberries, blossom and naturalistic foliage against a delicate light background. Rather than the traditional mossy setting seen on many Royal Worcester fruit studies, this composition employs a brighter palette that highlights the artist's refined modelling and exceptional sense of colour.

Richard Sebright is officially recognised as the greatest fruit painter in the history of Royal Worcester. His finest signed cabinet plates are considered museum-quality works and remain among the most sought-after examples of the factory's celebrated Painted Fruit production. The wide border is decorated in deep underglaze cobalt blue and lavishly enriched with burnished hand-applied gold ornament incorporating scrolling foliage, oval medallions and elegant neoclassical motifs. The reverse bears the Royal Worcester factory backstamp together with the original hand-painted workman's mark "Z 21".

Condition:

Excellent original cabinet condition. Fine age-related craquelure is present within the enamel of the central painted reserve. Minor wear is visible to the gilt foot rim on the reverse. Examined under UV light, no evidence of restoration, repairs, chips or cracks was detected. The fruit painting, enamels, cobalt blue ground and gilt decoration on the face remain in excellent original condition.
