German Porcelain Figures By Volkstedt, Paired Composition, Late 19th Century
A finely executed pair of German porcelain figures depicting a galant subject. Produced by Älteste Volkstedter Porzellanfabrik, Triebner, Ens & Co., in the late 19th century, when Volkstedt’s figure production was actively developed for the international export market. The figures reflect Volkstedt’s genre tradition, designed as a true paired composition rather than individual cabinet pieces.
The modelling is precise and balanced, with softly modelled faces, carefully rendered drapery and a restrained pastel palette enhanced by discreet gilding. Both figures are raised on rocaille bases with applied floral decoration.
The factory underglaze mark, used from approximately 1894, is present on the undersides. Each figure carries the same impressed form number “66”, confirming factory-produced pairing.
The combination of scale, paired composition and clean condition makes this an unusually complete example within Volkstedt’s late 19th-century figure production.
