"Antique Bohemian Glass Tea Set, Attributed To Moser, Karlsbad, C. 1890"
A fine and collectible Bohemian glass tea set,
attributed to Moser, Karlsbad, c. 1890. The set includes six cobalt blue cups
with matching saucers, decorated in raised enamel and fine gilding. The floral
and foliate ornamentation is typical of Moser’s late 19th-century production,
executed with precision and artistic refinement.
The glass has been expertly wheel-cut, polished, and finished with gold
and coloured enamel in relief, a technique strongly associated with Moser’s
output for royal households and international exhibitions. The workshop
received numerous awards, including Vienna (1873), Paris (1889), and Chicago
(1893). The set’s quality and sculptural detailing distinguish it even among
luxury Venetian wares.
Similar examples are preserved in museum collections, including the
Corning Museum of Glass, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Museum of
Decorative Arts in Berlin, and the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Moser
supplied his luxurious glassware to numerous royal courts, including those of
the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Ottoman Sultan, the Shah of Persia, and the
British royal family.
