Royal Worcester Richard Sebright Painted Fruit Cabinet Plate, 1936

Signed by the celebrated Royal Worcester artist Richard Sebright, this outstanding cabinet plate was produced in England in 1936 and represents one of the finest traditions of the manufactory's Painted Fruit decoration.

Richard Sebright (1870-1959) is officially regarded as the greatest fruit painter in the history of Royal Worcester. Throughout a career spanning more than fifty years, he developed an unmistakable style distinguished by exceptional realism, delicate colour gradation and remarkable botanical accuracy. His signed works are recognised as museum-quality pieces and continue to command the highest prices among Royal Worcester Painted Fruit porcelain.

The central still life depicts two ripe apples, several blackberries and delicate wild flowers executed in finely shaded overglaze enamels. The broad cobalt-blue border is lavishly enriched with ornate hand-applied burnished gold decoration and finely executed raised jewelled gilding formed from individually applied gold enamel beads, creating an elegant contrast with the fruit painting.

Royal Worcester was awarded the Grand Prix at both the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle and the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, confirming its international reputation for artistic excellence.

The underside bears the authentic puce Royal Worcester factory mark incorporating the date code for 1936, together with factory technological marks.
