"Early Spode Imari Lidded Cup, Pearl Bead Border, Regency, C.1815"
A fine English porcelain lidded chocolate cup
attributed to Spode, dating to the Regency period around 1815. The classic form
with twin handles and domed lid is hand-painted in the iconic Imari
palette—cobalt blue, iron red, and soft green enamels, accented with gilded
highlights and a raised pearl beaded rim. The cup and lid both bear a
hand-painted green Roman numeral “II,” a typical matching mark for this era
before factory-printed marks came into use. The Spode factory was among the earliest to
develop English bone china and set the standard for durability and translucency
in Regency porcelain.
Condition: A small chip to the inner edge of the lid
(not visible when the lid is closed), minor wear to the gilding. Enamels and
gold remain bright and unfaded. No cracks or restoration.
