Old Paris Porcelain Tea Service, Petit Style, Louis-philippe I Period, Circa 1840
A refined antique Old Paris porcelain tea service dating to around 1840, composed of four matching pieces: teapot, sugar bowl with lid, milk jug and bonbon dish. The service belongs to the Louis-Philippe I period and reflects the rocaille revival in Paris decorative arts. The turquoise ground with floral reserves is closely associated with the Jacob Petit circle, enhanced by fine gilding and light ornamental details. The decoration remains elegant and well balanced throughout the set. All four pieces belong to the same matching set and create a strong decorative group. A small underglaze pseudo-Sèvres stroke is present on the bases, typical of Paris workshops of the period.
