Gilt Bronze, Lacquered Figure Of Amitayus, Tibet, 18th Century
This bronze figure depicts the Buddha Amitayus. He sits in the padmasana position and holds a kalasa containing the nectar of immortality. The kalasa, or longevity vase, has no spout and is primarily used in rituals to visualize the mandala and its divine occupants, which are then dissolved into the waters of the vase.
