A monumental 18th-century Persian ritual water vessel (āb-zan), entirely hammered and engraved by hand. Made from a single bronze sheet without casting, it is richly decorated with rhythmic V-cut bands of scrolling arabesques, wave borders, and stylised palmettes, symbolising purity and renewal.
Such vessels were used in aristocratic and religious contexts, particularly within the Kerman–Yazd region, where engraving of this depth and precision was a hallmark of ceremonial craftsmanship. Comparable examples are held at the British Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum, both classified as high-ceremonial Persian metalwork.
