An outstanding pair of Japanese Kyō-Satsuma vases, dating to the late Meiji period (c.1890–1905), confidently attributed to the Kinkozan workshop. Both vases are decorated with exceptional finesse — richly layered polychrome enamel scenes with dense gold embellishment and formal Buddhist iconography. The exterior features a cobalt ground with stylised phoenixes in raised gilt.
While unsigned, the form, gilding, palette, and detailing match recorded examples from the Kinkozan studio. These are mature Kyoto export wares of museum calibre.
Condition:
– One vase has a rim restoration, only visible from above.
– The other has a surface glaze line, confirmed under UV light as non-penetrating.
Both are stable and ready for display.
Dimensions:
Vase 1: Height 23.2 cm, Weight 618 g
Vase 2: Height 23.0 cm, Weight 590 g
