Herend Tea Caddy / Ginger Jar, Siang Rouge Red Dynasty, Handpainted, 20th Century
Artist: Herend
A fine handpainted tea caddy or ginger jar by Herend,
Hungary, decorated in the sought-after “Siang Rouge” (Red Dynasty) pattern,
20th century. The body and lid are finished in a deep rust-red ground with
alternating white panels, each featuring stylized floral and foliate scrolls in
fine gilding.
The “Siang Rouge” pattern was conceived as an homage to Japanese Imari and Chinese Qing dynasty porcelain of the 18th century. The rich color palette and intricate ornamentation reflect Herend’s celebrated tradition of interpreting classic Far Eastern aesthetics for the European market. Herend has long acknowledged Eastern influences in its designs, making this pattern a key example of the manufactory’s European Orientalism.
Marked to the base with the blue Herend shield, “HANDPAINTED” and factory numerals.
