Worcester Porcelain Plate, Dragon And Kylin, Flight, Barr & Barr, C.1820
A Regency Worcester porcelain plate of fluted and scalloped form, decorated in the enduring “Dragon in Compartments” design.
Opposing panels display a dragon and a kylin separated by reserves of vases and precious objects, painted in colours inspired by Chinese famille verte porcelain.
First introduced at Worcester in the 1760s, the pattern remained one of the factory’s most successful orientalising designs. This example, dating to the Flight, Barr & Barr period around 1820, reflects the mature Regency aesthetic in its structured cobalt border and controlled gilding.
The plate retains a “Flight Collection” label to the underside, relating to the important Worcester collection assembled by Howard Emerson Flight — Lord Flight — descendant of Thomas Flight, purchaser of the factory in 1783.
