Royal Vienna Chocolate Cup With Allegorical Woodland Scenes, C.1880

A finely painted Royal Vienna porcelain chocolate cup, c.1880, decorated in cobalt blue with elaborate raised gilding and moriage beading in gold and white enamel. Executed on a deep cobalt ground with meticulous attention to detail, exemplifying the refinement of Vienna porcelain of the late 19th century.                                                                                                                                                                          
  The panoramic frieze features three interconnected allegorical scenes: a rustic mother soothing her child (Nature), village women gathering flowers and weaving a garland (Art), and Cupid riding in a chariot drawn by two maidens (Love). This triad of “Art – Nature – Love” reflects the neoclassical ideals cherished in Royal Vienna decoration of this period.
