Pair of black marble vases, red marble marquetry and gilt bronze – Empire period Elegant pair of small decorative ovoid vases in black marble, finely inlaid with red marble marquetry representing a stylized plant motif running in a frieze. Each vase is mounted on a circular pedestal in finely chiseled gilt bronze decorated with friezes of pearls and palmettes. The body is encircled by a superb gilt bronze mount adorned with a relief decoration of scrolls and protruding bearded satyr heads, typical of the Empire style. The flared neck, also in gilt bronze chiseled with stylized foliage, completes the decorative balance of the whole. Refined work from the end of the Empire period or beginning of the Restoration, circa 1815-1820. Height: 17 cm Excellent condition.
