Empire-style skeleton clock: “The Chariot ofLoyalty,” based on a design by André-Antoine RAVRIO (1759–1814), createdfor Caroline Murat’s silver boudoir at the Élysée Palace.
Chiseled bronze gilded with mercury, ormolu, depicting achild draped in the antique style driving a chariot pulled by a poodle.
The front of the chariot is decorated with a winged deity andflowering branches; the sides feature birds holding flowering branches;the rectangular, beveled base is decorated with a mascaron and friezes ofpalmettes; the whole rests on four spindle-shaped feet,
enameled skeleton dial witha double row of Roman and Arabic numerals, signed: CLERGE in Valenciennes,
the balance wheel is suspended by a silk thread; the movement plate is signed:LESIEUR, (the King’s clockmaker).
