Large Gilt Bronze And Patinated Candelabra, 19th Century,
Pair of candelabra with allegorical figures in patinated bronze and gilt bronze, 19th century period
Elegant pair of three-light candelabra in patinated bronze and finely chased and gilded bronze. Each candelabra rests on a cylindrical base adorned with a rich frieze of vine leaves and bunches of grapes in gilded bronze.
The shafts are made up of remarkable allegorical figures treated in brown patina bronze. One depicts a young woman draped in antique style, in a graceful, expressive attitude, while the other features a winged genie, a frequent symbol of Love or Inspiration in neoclassical iconography. The figures support with their arms a bouquet of light arms with naturalistic decoration.
The three-light binnacles blossom into wide corollas of finely chased and gilded flowers and foliage, in a spirit inspired by late 18th century creations and the Louis XVI taste. The contrast between the dark patina of the figures and the brilliance of the gilding lends the whole a great decorative quality.
