The front features an ornamental refinement with geometric frames and stylized arabesques, centered around an original brass lock, topped with an elegantly crafted locking pin.
The top of the box is decorated with finely stamped and gilded coats of arms, surmounted by a crown, probably testifying to an aristocratic or ecclesiastical commission.
The interior is lined with a superb green damask fabric with floral motifs, divided into three compartments for filing correspondence, papers and documents. The silk still retains its color and patterns despite the wear of time.
This type of box, used in the 19th century, was used to store and protect personal and administrative mail.
It testifies to the taste of the time for objects that were both utilitarian and refined.
Good overall condition, leather slightly patinated with traces of wear on the edges, interior in good condition with some signs of age.
Lock present but key missing. Dimensions: H 24.5cm W 17.5cm D 11.5cm
