Pair Of Reversible Gilt Bronze Cassolettes-candlesticks - Empire Period
Pair of reversible gilded bronze cassolettes-bougeoirs - Empire period
Elegant pair of ovoid cassolettes in finely chased and mercury-gilded bronze, resting on a circular pedestal itself set on a square base with fluted decoration. Each piece is richly adorned with beaded friezes, acanthus leaves and gadroons, characteristic of the Empire style, testifying to high quality workmanship.
The side handles, with stylized scrolls, feature refined decor inspired by Antiquity, giving the ensemble perfect symmetry and a beautiful decorative presence.
These cassolettes are said to be reversible: their removable lids, surmounted by an elegant fretel, flip over to form bobèches, transforming the vases into candleholders. This ingenious system, much appreciated under the First Empire, combines aesthetics and functionality.
Beautiful original gilding showing a warm patina, with light wear consistent with age.
