"Tour Saint Jacques In Paris, Oil On Canvas By Henry Malfroy"
This painting beautifully depicts the lively life in Paris before the Second World War, and more specifically the Saint Jacques Tower, one of the oldest monuments in the capital. The sky, as always in this painter's works, is wavy; the cars and buses of the time, the figures, seem to be in motion. A magnificent frame gilded with fine gold highlights this superb work by Henry Malfroy. Charles Henri Malfroy (January 15, 1895 – April 27, 1945) was a French painter. He trained at the School of Fine Arts in Paris under his father, Charles Malfroy, with whom he is often confused. He regularly exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français and at the Salon des Indépendants until 1934. Adopting a technique close to Impressionism, he painted the coasts and ports of Bouches-du-Rhône and Var, as well as landscapes of Paris and the banks of the Seine. His work was part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1928 Summer Olympics. A member of the French Resistance during World War II, Malfroy was arrested and died at the Buchenwald concentration camp. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Liberation. dimensions: visible: 41 x 27 frame: 57 x 42.5
