Manufacture De La Reine Trembleuse Chocolate Cup And Saucer, Paris C.1780–1800
A fine French porcelain covered trembleuse chocolate cup and saucer from the Manufacture de la Reine, rue Thiroux, dating to the late 18th century circa 1780–1800.
Founded by André Leboeuf in 1776, the factory received the protection of Queen Marie-Antoinette in 1778 and adopted the red crowned A mark, which appears on both pieces.
The set is of refined covered trembleuse form with a deep saucer designed to hold the cup securely. The cup has a tapering body, loop handle and domed cover with a berry finial and leaf.
The decoration combines pink and lilac ribbon trellis panels, blue floral sprigs and gilt borders on a white ground. The saucer features a geometric ribbon design giving a neoclassical balance.
