Object description :

"Derby Biscuit Figure Group ‘three Graces Distressing Cupid’, C.1775–1785 — Museum Model"

A striking Derby biscuit group translating Angelica Kauffmann’s Etiam Amor criminibus plectitur (engraved by W.W. Ryland, 1777) into porcelain. The Three Graces bind Cupid beneath a tall tree with quiver and bow at their feet — a masterclass in late-Georgian Neoclassicism. Biscuit’s unglazed surface captures every nuance of modelling, its matte whiteness evoking carved marble.

Examples of this rare model are documented in the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Fitzwilliam Museum; large-scale survivors in private trade are exceptional.

Condition
One Grace absent from the rear; partial bow loss; scattered flower and leaf losses; 18th-century kiln stress lines including a radial line beneath base. UV clean — no through-cracks or overpaint beyond declared points. Presents beautifully from the front.
