"Royal Worcester Porcelain Perfume Bottle With Forget-me-not Encrustation, C. 1870"
A finely crafted 19th-century porcelain perfume
bottle, attributed to Royal Worcester, c. 1870. The surface is entirely covered
in hand-applied flower encrustation, with each individual bloom modelled and
attached by hand. This labor-intensive technique, often referred to as
forget-me-not encrustation, is associated with Worcester’s most elaborate
decorative work of the Victorian period.
The
encrustation features dense clusters of small blue-tipped flowers with yellow
centers, arranged to create a richly textured floral surface. The original
stopper is preserved, with additional applied decoration and a finely gilded
collar.
Such items are extremely fragile, and complete examples are seldom found
in the current market. This piece combines technical refinement, visual charm,
and high collectability. It also represents the intersection of Victorian taste
and the 19th-century fascination with scent-related luxury objects.
