Kilim Shahsaven - Persia. Signed. Late 19th Century. 480 X 180 Cm
An impressive Shahsaven kilim from Persia.
The piece is signed (see photos).
Traditionally woven using wool on wool.
The weave is extremely fine and refined, and the piece is supple. The plant-based dyes are wonderfully fresh, and the indigo blues are deep and saturated.
It is a marvel of striking contrasts, notably featuring large ecru ram’s horn motifs that stand out against the overall design and create a sense of dynamism.
This size is extremely rare in antique kilims, which leads me to believe that this kilim was likely commissioned by its first owner, who undoubtedly belonged to high society...
In short, the piece is exceptional, precious, and truly one-of-a-kind.
I believe it deserves and calls for an equally sumptuous interior.
Circa 1880
In very fine condition
