Fragments Maffrash Karabakh. Caucasus. Circa 1820. 43 X 40 Cm (x2)
Magnificent pair of fragments of Maffrash Karabag originating from the Caucasus. These two pieces pay homage to the creativity and dexterity of the Armenian people of the Caucasus. The weave is so simple, so fine, with wool, it simply doesn't exist! Maffrash belong to the family of everyday objects used by the nomadic populations of Persia and the Caucasus. They formed the largest satchels or carrying cases. These two fragments constituted the two small panels facing each other. Embroidery technique (Sumak) on a woven wool-on-wool structure. Splendid plant-based hues. In particular, this soft green tending towards yellow. It's magical. Here we offer a pair; it is rare to find them in this condition. Circa 1820. Dimensions: 43 x 40 cm (x2). Laurent Beauty of Kilims
